Courage to Act in Alignment

Series 1: Week 4 – Living Authentically: A Journey to the True Self

Awareness. Honesty. Compassion.
These steps open the door to transformation. But at some point, clarity calls for action—and that’s where courage comes in.

Courage isn’t always dramatic. Sometimes it’s found in small, everyday choices:

  • Speaking up in a meeting when your instinct is to stay quiet.

  • Saying “no” when your plate is already full.

  • Admitting you need help instead of pushing through alone.

  • Asking for what you really want instead of settling for what’s offered.

Other times, it shows up in bigger moments:

  • Leaving an unhealthy relationship.

  • Walking away from a job that doesn’t align with your values.

  • Starting a business, moving to a new place, or reinventing yourself midlife.

I remember stepping into my first management role as a surgery center manager. I was new to leadership and feeling overwhelmed—especially with ADHD and dyslexia, the self-doubt whispered loudly. Then Kenzie surprised me with a Yeti cup engraved with an Eleanor Roosevelt quote that instantly shifted something:

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face … You must do the thing you think you cannot do.”
— Eleanor Roosevelt

That Yeti cup became a daily reminder. Fear didn’t disappear, but with each sip, I felt braver. Saying “yes” to leadership, even when I felt unprepared, became an act of courage in alignment with what I knew I needed to learn.

Courage isn’t the absence of fear—it’s trusting yourself enough to act anyway. It’s choosing alignment over comfort, truth over convenience.

Courage is the bridge between clarity and change. Whether it’s a small step or a giant leap, every act of courage builds momentum toward a more authentic, grounded, and free life.

What small, courageous step could you take this week that aligns with your authentic self?
